Symantec Management Agent, developed by Altiris Inc. (formerly known as Altiris Agent), is the endpoint client for the Symantec Management Platform. It runs as a background service on Windows, macOS, and Linux systems to receive policies, deliver software and patches, execute tasks, and collect and report hardware and software inventory to central servers. The agent communicates securely over the network, supports scheduled and bandwidth-aware transfers, and can leverage local package servers to reduce WAN usage. It also hosts plug-ins for capabilities such as inventory, software deployment, patch management, and remote management, with an optional tray interface for user-facing actions when enabled by administrators.
